Mary Jones

Mary Jones’s prints, paintings, installations and drawings are works that wander through place and time by recording experience with words, drawings, and photos–usually combined; she says that these things together “are a way of knowing places, negotiating change.” She has illustrated six books, and has created many artist’s books, as well. Jones has exhibited widely in solo and group shows throughout the country, and earned numerous awards, most recently project grants from the Greater Des Moines Public Art foundation and the Iowa Arts Council. Her work can be found in many public and corporate collections, including the Chicago Children’s Museum, Chicago Public Library, and the Illinois State Museum (Springfield, IL). She holds a BFA in Art History form the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MFA in Printmaking from Indiana University at Bloomington. Jones was Instructor of Courses and Chair of the Art and Design Departments at the Institute of Art & Design, Robert Morris College, Chicago, IL; and was Professor of Art and Design at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa, until her retirement in 2017.
